Is there any plan to instead github.com/golang/protobuf with google.golang.org/protobuf. FYI: https://pkg.go.dev/github.com/golang/protobuf/proto

Last time someone tried updating these, it made problems for k8s. Have the downstream compatibility problems been resolved? If not maybe figure that out first.
