The original issue was fixed in https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-collector/pull/8716, and the feature gate is now marked as beta.

Although I'm not opposed to a k8s distro, I would like to see further discussions on what distros are officially supported by the community progress before making a decision here....
