Suggestion : Remove Youtube Doodles
⚬ PROBLEM:
I find the random youtubes doodles which i find bad and distracting
⚬ SOLUTION:
Being able to remove the doodles and replace it by the normal youtube logo (or the improved one if the settings is on)
⚬ RELEVANCE / SCOPE: I think it would be good to not change the default behaviour, some people might like the doodles
⚬ "SIDE EFFECTS":
It could conflict with the "improved youtube logo", but it should be fine
Thank you!
| SHORT Table | (Summary) |
|---|---|
| Problem | Youtube Doodles are annoying |
| Solution | Replace doodle by default logo |
| Scope | Not Active by Default |
| Side effects | Conflict with Improved Youtube Logo possible |
I guess you could see it this way
edit: hi! @OshidaBCF we can add an option to "hide the logo": with a sub-option: my replacement: _____ and below that "hide youtube's temporary doodles next to the logo"
June11: Today's Youtube doodle ("Yoodle") replaces YouTube's logo too it seems (#2360 #2361, hi @michaelrogers0) And somebody posted a ublockfilter for this in our discord.
based on the attention to details and your previous posts, maybe you would like to walk on my path here for some minutes (or easily several):
https://github.com/code-charity/crowd-fixes https://github.com/code-charity/crowd-fixes/issues/1.
( While conceptionally it is appealing / more of a challenge, to think of a whole category of things that wasn't even implemented just yet. Besides practically we can also argue that on youtube.com about above 1/5th of all time is spent, that people spend on websites. [and about above two thirds on the top20] )
Oh i see
yeah that would be better

I'm not sure what i am supposed to do from this "post"
it's very interesting but i'm not sure if you're asking me to make a userscript that do what i want and share it here, so then you can just implement it in the "global extension"
yes @OshidaBCF in other words😀: just a topic to wonder about: ImprovedTube is sub-set of "CrowdFixes" and we should get there.
We could easily implement features (like hiding Logo or doodles) and 1000s of other things for all websites ( or the top 100+), with a small team/community to keep the features updated. And even enable features by default for every user, if they get elected by an overwhelming majority/consensus of votes.) Yet it isn't organized/a waste of volunteer- & user-energy.
- ublock(/adblock) rules, are like an extension-framework and allow a short notation/implementation of many of our features. Including, setting a JS variable, html filtering, CSS/xpath selectors, re-evaluating once an attribute changes (/mutation observer), and more.
- So that for example 25 lines of these can make a github project with 1000 stars
- And for hiding the logo and doodles we might need just one line each.
- And we can also have rules for enabling/disabling one of youtube's 800+ "experiment flags" (and order them by most recent for, or most annoying)
-
While there are ~50? million uBlock users, but only "a few nerds" (let's assume 100000), might just write their own rules (often quick and easy, just for themselves. Or copy them from some posts). Yet they should collaborate within the app, and updates should happen quickly for everybody (not manually) If they and we pay the effort at all. (Since these rules or features are also what have to be updated whenever the websites change.) (unlike our unique code beyond that, for more complex features.) (And updating our alone for many years is already a Sisyphus-task and i should feel guilty for every delay🥵.)

Drafted crowd-fixes 3 years ago but it only got 11 stars yet.
2,5 month ago so i tried the topic in ublock's reddit and tagged letsblock.it but the reddit topic was deleted.
(~2 years ago letsblock.it started an extra project/server allowing you to select from a list 30 rule-sets (half of them happen to be for youtube). 1 month ago letsblock.it is closing.)
I see
makes sense, i didn't even known that youtube had flags
