Speed change buttons

Could you make it so that I can press buttons to change the speed of a video, like you did with rotate and screenshot? I like to watch videos in 2x speed always, so I have force playback speed on at 2. The problem is that I want to watch most videos in 2x speed, but for a variety of reasons some videos I can not watch at 2x speed. but changing the speed of a video is already annoying without this extension, but with it, it is extra annoying. If force playback speed is set to 2x and you want to go to normal playback speed here is the process. Press the cog > select the playback speed dropdown > select something other than normal (because normal is still selected despite being played at 2x) > youtube closes the drop down so you have to select it agin > then you can select normal to watch at normal speed.

I see three possible solutions: 0) No matter what, force something other than normal to be selected so that if you select normal in YouTubes drop down normal is actually selected. So actually select 2x in the YouTube menu.

  1. give me the option to add a speed-up / down buttons that will incrementally change the speed when pressed.

  2. give me the option to press a button that will change the speed to a specific speed e.g. 0.75, normal, 2x

  3. give me the option to select the drop down out side of the cog once 0 is implemented.

Thanks love the app.

Option to have buttons to choose specific speed is interesting. I don't know how about lags etc, but hey! they can add something like keybind for specific speed. that will content you?

Saw someone say that you can hold shitft + ","/"." I had no idea that this was a thing. I will definitely have a lot of use for that.

This button is useful when play the music playlist. I always play the game walkthrough at 3x speed and play the music at 1 x speed. If there is a quick shortcut or button for the default play speed, it's much better.

Hey, you can use some other extensión like global speed to use shortcuts that change the playback speed

lets steal the buttons from Video Accelerated:

speed_buttons

maybe in the future also preset buttons

Video Accelerated saves speeds by categories (like requested in https://github.com/code-for-charity/YouTube-Extension/issues/680 → https://github.com/code-for-charity/YouTube-Extension/issues/551 ), so in my experience that lessens the need to have static speed buttons

The following might be best. Hi @allanlaal !

  • usually invisible: Content based rules: #1170. And #1451

VS

  • visible: Buttons to use live: (Speed: see the specs after the horizontal line:) #1445
    • right-clicking the button could offer the option to make speed stick for the current category. (Which would create a rule to also be seen in a list of all defined rules)

Now I find the speedup and slowdown shortcut on the setting and set them by W and S, for changing x0.5 every times. And setting my controller with X Y button, it works fine right now.

And for the new feature, I'd like to have the invisible one. thanks for your developing!

To add to the reasons - I never use arrow right to go forward 5 seconds when I'm searching for a specific part in a video. If I do that in a MrBeast video it can work, but in a podcast where nothing really changes visually, I just increase the speed and I'm still able to somewhat get what they are saying.

@ImprovedTube I also vote invisible. IMO it's better if more commands are implemented first and we can manually tweak them. Only later, if you have spare time you can code the more complex content-rule-based.

button from enhancer for youtube would be better tbh. since it have functionality to use scroll wheel on button to change speed which is really cool.

Came to request this feature myself! Scroll wheel speed changes is one of the nicest features in Enhancer for YouTube, so nice to be able to quickly vary video speed while watching.
