🐛 Cannot reinstall cloudflare in Win10 64
Describe the bug I have had what I believe to be a somewhat corrupt version of cloudflared installed. For additional context see Additional context below.
So today I tried reinstalling the service with the windows installer (which wasn't a thing yet when I first started using cloudflare i believe). The installer opens a window for the fraction of a second to instantly disappear never to be seen again. When executing it in a terminal it does the same, permanently running and not reporting anything, but also not doing anything. Thinking that this might be because it did not want to overwrite the already installed version I deleted the folders Cloudflared and .cloudflared and tried using the installer again afterwards. This did not resolve the issue and just resulted in no version of cloudflared being installed and/or available.
Are there files I missed to delete? What can I do to install cloudflared again? Help is much appreciated!
To Reproduce
- have a version of cloudflared installed already
- execute cloudflared windows installer
- get a permanently stuck process that wont install anything
Expected behavior cloudflared-windows-amd64.exe reinstalling/installing cloudflared without a problem.
Environment and versions
- OS: Win10 Pro 64
- Architecture: AMD
- Last installed version: 2022.8.4
Logs and errors
Current process when using the installer
earlier error from a while ago (showing the "corrupt installation")
Additional context Regarding the "corrupt version": I have had cloudflared installed for about half a year now. In the beginning everything worked fine, however after some time some commands just did not work. Since I did not have the time or need to fix them at the time I just ignored them. For the past few weeks however I have been trying to get RDP over an access tunnel to work, so I ran into problems again, this time with starting the Websocket listening process. Another problem was me not being able to update cloudflare using the command "cloudflare update". The application would report the update to version 2022.10.0 to be success, but the version would still be the same (2022.8.4) afterwards.
Using the installer after manually deleting the folders .cloudflared aswell as Cloudflared did not reinstall cloudflared.exe, but created the folder Cloudflared including an empty cloudflared.log file before freezing.
It took me stupidly long to recognize that the exe "installer" is in fact not an installer but the program itself.
I now have cloudflared up and running again, however it doesn't change the fact that the msi installer did not work for me. Should I keep this up for that? Apart from my previously mentioned problems with RDP over cloudflared access this issue is closed in my eyes.
Best regards
This is not your fault. This is an issue that we have on our sights and should address it in a while after some priorities.
