Send button / enter does not do anything

What happened?

The send button / enter action does not send the query. This behavior is inconsistent, sometimes it will work with one VS Code window but not with another VS Code window.

Steps to reproduce

I have no idea how to reproduce. I am on Cline 3.17.14 and

However, the docs clarify that Enter, Cmd/Ctrl+Enter, and Shift+Enter have specific behaviors: Enter restores just the task, Cmd/Ctrl+Enter restores the task and workspace, and Shift+Enter inserts a new line in your message see shortcuts. If the send button or Enter key is inconsistent between VS Code windows, it could be related to window focus, conflicting extensions, or shortcut overrides. I am experiencing this same issue. I disabled new extensions for my environment. Disabled, restarted Cline. I am still unable to submit any queries. Arrow and enter do nothing. Cline v3.17.14 VSCode v1.101.1

Same issue with the VSCode extension, just got the extension today to try out. After disabling all other extensions (except dev containers as I use a dev container for development) and reloading, the issue persists.

VSCode 1.100.2 Cline v3.17.14 Ubuntu 24.04

I also encountered this problem yesterday, the API configuration and language settings etc cannot be saved either. Could you provide a way to completely uninstall cline? I think a complete reinstallation of cline will fix this issue. vscode: 1.101.1 cline: 3.17.14 ubuntu: 22.04

For me, I was able to solve the problem by changing the API Provider back to Cline. I never updated that setting directly, but perhaps it changed during an update or when changing the model.

Echoing @tragicrich, it does seem like switching provider from Cline and back to my selected provider fixes the issue. This a decent workaround but leaving open until perhaps we can find a permanent resolution.

Same here, kept spamming random tabs and buttons and changed providers and headers, until it finally worked.

Same here. Cline is only working on the one project, not responding on others.

Hi all, this issue might stem from issues with state (#2501), that we've been working on.

To gather more information though, @prmichaelsen, what was the provider you switched back to from the Cline Provider?

Also if anyone encounters this issue again across multiple windows: Do your provider + model settings appear to be the same across the multiple windows? Or did any of them visually change? @xdhcode , @hochoy , @vaughngit , @syunen77 , @lzhangbb

I started experiencing this on Friday and 4-5 times today. Like others have mentioned, a quick fix is changing my API provider back to GCP Vertex AI.

currently on 3.17.15

Same issue, my provider was changed - changing manually back to my chosen provider fixed the issue.

I'm noticing this as well, my provider was changed (to OpenRouter), and changing it manually back (to GCP Vertex AI) fixed the issue. Had the same thing happen regularly ever since it started last Thursday June 19th (CEST timezone).

HI @kevinneung my provided changed to OpenRouter but when I changed it back to Bedrock, still no joy. It issue seems to be intermittent and I am not sure what causes it.
