CGROUPS V1 and systemd hybrid mode are still being used in Clear Linux. Some Questions.
This is a question for someone on the Clear Linux team who is more versed in kernel-related things.
CGROUPS V1 and systemd hybrid mode are still being used in Clear Linux. Why? Many bleeding edge distributions have switched to full CGROUPS V2 usage now that many applications are compatible with it. Please see this context in the forums, showing some benchmarks: https://community.clearlinux.org/t/phoronix-updated-benchmarks/9647/4 https://community.clearlinux.org/t/phoronix-updated-benchmarks/9647/11
I think this issue should get more relevant with systemd v257 and v258, as the deprecation of CGROUPSv1 and hybrid mode is planned for systemd v257 with the complete removal following with v258 as per systemd Release Notes.
We did end up moving to cgroups v2 though it requires you restart in order to see it.
Thanks for the reply @bryteise. Let's see if there are any significant benchmark regressions in Clear Linux because of the change from cgroups v1 to cgroups v2 (as the benchmarks in the OP showed).
It shouldn't, in principle, according to everything I have read about cgroups v2 and its advantages.
