I found this: https://github.com/openid/php-openid Maybe the simplest thing though would be to fork LightOpenID and just maintain the fork. I doubt it'd be a lot of work.
Just for reference, I can say I tested the Steam provider today (which uses OpenID), and it worked well. So things seem fine right now.

It's not related to autostart. Most times I launch it manually, a new icon appears. I did a little testing just now and I have 4 icons.
