Can't change HUD keybinding, Alt unavailable to some programs

Open sableseyler opened this issue 10 years ago • 1 comments

I found the HUD keybinding as an option in Unity Tweak Tool, but changing it does nothing. Alt remains bound to the HUD, and the new binding never takes effect. This is a problem because some things can't use Alt as a result:

  • Guake—I use emacs keybindings in my zsh config, and attempting to M-b (Alt+b) to go back a word fails. Guake loses focus briefly to the HUD, and promptly vanishes.
  • Dwarf Fortress—There are a decent handful of Alt+ keybindings in DF, and several more if you use DFHack (rather important ones too, like gui/workflow, gui/liquids, and gui/job-material). DF (and DFHack) can't detect Alt in any way.

These are just the ones I've noticed, and there are likely others that exist. I'd really appreciate some help disabling the Alt binding for the HUD.

Thanks, Seylerius

You need to change it in Tweak Tool as well as compiz-settings-manager. And possibly restart Unity.
