What's Unity-for-Arch's take on Mir?

As you might know Canonical is planning to switch the graphic server in Unity from version 8 and up to their own Mir display server.

Whats the plan for Unity-for-Arch according to Mir and future Unity releases?

I hope that you'll continue to maintain Unity7 with X11 support for a while and that there some time in the future would be a Wayland port available.

I don't hope that some day I do a git pull and I would have unity8 with a lot of mir libraries 'cause honestly I'm not a fan of Mir.

I do plan on maintaining Unity X11 for as I long as I can. How long though? I have no idea. Unity as you may know, is very unstable (if it even compiles) when it's not updated to work with the latest GNOME release. On top of that, Ubuntu has horrible backwards compatibility. New indicators are almost guaranteed to not work.

I'm not a big fan of Mir either. I'm currently trying to port it in my UnityNext-for-Arch repository. I plan to maintain all of the Unity 8 stuff there and leave Unity-for-Arch for the X11 version of Unity.

Luckily, right now switching between X11 and Mir is something like:

sudo systemctl stop lightdm.service
sudo lightdm-set-defaults ...
sudo systemctl start lightdm.service

It's a hassle, but if we are stuck with Mir, then at least we won't have to reboot to switch.
