unable to understand how this works

I am totally new to Rails but in need to finish this. I find the example even after seeing the Readme not very helpful. I am not able to understand how to start and where to go for this gem. There is no Railscasts either. Would be very grateful if you can write a tutorial with more explanations or a video cast. I know I am asking for a lot, but can you try?
