The package hiding trick does not really work here because Karen's problem comes from PAUSE finding what it thinks is a package name in an error message inside a string....
This is the -M option. We can close this issue.

Thanks for that. I thought I had made that work, but I had merely defined the constants for it. I just uploaded App::Cpan 1.61_03 which I think does the trick....

This issue has been resolved but I don't have the access to close it.
I've merged https://github.com/briandfoy/module-extract-version/pull/16 and that seems to pass all the tests. I'll bump the version and see what CPAN Testers says.
You don't want to use `install_name_tool` as I showed? I don't have time to work on this right now, but my first goal would be to check that DBD::Pg isn't...
Oh man, had I checked RT and seen that, I would have saved myself a couple days of frustrating work. Always check the bug queues!
