Brave lags when changing window size

Open frankhuurman opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

Description

Upgraded from Ubuntu 22.04.4 to 24.04.1 yesterday and after the upgrade I noticed the Brave browser snap wasn't working as usual anymore after it updated all the snaps as well.

When I change the size of the window it draws a black border where the window is going to end up but it takes quite some time for the window to actually change to the size that I want it to be. Other (snap) apps like VLC media player don't have this behaviour.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Brave Browser
  2. Change the window size by dragging it in and out using the mouse

Actual result

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/0edc44d6-6118-4b37-afa0-2a656ce59502

Expected result

That the window changes size faster and doesn't do this "drawing ahead" of a black border when I change the window size.

Reproduces how often

Easily reproduced

Brave version (brave://version info)

Version 1.69.162 Chromium: 128.0.6613.120 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Channel information

  • [X] release (stable)
  • [ ] beta
  • [ ] nightly

Reproducibility

  • [ ] with Brave Shields disabled
  • [ ] with Brave Rewards disabled
  • [ ] in the latest version of Chrome

Miscellaneous information

The latest Chromium snap doesn't do this either. My laptop has a Ryzen 4800U + 16GB DDR4

Changing window size being laggy is a known X11 problem https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1879987
