Force date to be displayed in a chosen language

When the date field is added to a certificate, the certificate will display this in the preferred language of the recipient, which sounds good at first, but some languages (e.g. Russian) the months don't display properly as the Russian translations include characters that cannot be printed.

What would be better, was if there was an option to specify the language that things appear in - e.g. so I could set this so that the date always appears in English and not the preferred language of the user.
