Description
Add support to bake custom AMIs based on different Operating Systems, specifically for Debian.
Motivation
We have worked on baking custom AMIs based on Debian OS when this repository had support for other AMI variants. Later the support was removed and the entire code was refactored to only support AL2.
When there are breaking or significant changes being made on the K8s versions, we are finding it difficult to manage the old scipts and update them. Can we bring back the old codebase back or add support for baking other AMI variants again? I hope this request will be considered valid and will be helpful for the community who are working on Operating Systems other than AL2 on EKS.
We will be glad to contribute if other Operating System support is added back again.

At this time, do not have any plans to support additional operating systems outside of Amazon Linux 2 (AL2) and Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023) and future variants of Amazon Linux (AL2025, etc.)
Thanks for your quick response.
@bryantbiggs Following up on this, is there a roadmap for when this repo will have deployments for AL2023 available given it is now officially supported by AWS as an underlying image for EKS worker nodes?
no ETA, but we're open to pull requests to support
