As per discussion with @sunnyratilal, with the forthcoming release of EDD 3.0, it might be good to go back and revise the email template and structure of the data on the purchase receipts, sales notifications, etc.

Here is what I propose:

• The look of the payment receipts (and emails in general) is a bit dated and not fully responsive in my experience. Something similar to WooCommerce, Stripe, Airbnb, etc could be used to bring things more up to date and inline with digital product sales.

• The new user registration notification should be customisable by the store owner, while this is ultimately core WordPress functionality, EDD sends it's own version of this notification and it would be nice to be able make the content editable for store owners to welcome customers.

• The purchase receipts can be made tax/invoice compliant by structuring the layout and data into a table as per the way PDF Invoices does on the invoice templates included. When you purchase goods from a store, the "receipt" given is typically structured to also function as tax compliant invoice, which is what I believe we should aim for with EDD out of the box.

While important, this won't be ready for 3.1. We need to do some UI/UX work around what this will look like in the admin before committing to it.
