Post 2022 all my script will start failing? (As protractor is coming to an end - https://github.com/angular/protractor/issues/5502)

Hi Community!

As I am having thousands of test cases written in Protractor so I am curious to know whether my script will work after 2022 or not? (As protractor is coming to an end - https://github.com/angular/protractor/issues/5502)

As I know there are no final decision regarding Protractor deprecation. All the same I hope that maintainer will save Protractor as project and upgrade it with modern selenium (at least most of Protractor users want it). We waiting Protractor upgrades from 2020 where it was announced and commented by maintainer in #5442 .

In the same bad scenario, if Protractor will be deprecated officially, your tests could work, but, this will be very depend on what will be with browsers and selenium 3.X at the end of 2022. For example, if Chrome will stop support jwp or introduce some incompatible settings, if selenium 3.x will stop support as well - then your protractor tests will also fail with such new chrome.

We have been using protractor in our organization for the past three years and seeing the options of using the same protractor for other new projects.

Angular 12 is released , so when can we expect the official announcement that whether protractor will continue or not ?

It's not clear from comment -

"For point (3), we are exploring the possibility of a shared ownership of the project with other enterprise partners. This effort will keep Protractor going in the form of version 6 (no Control Flow, no legacy deps, no jasminewd). "

Can you please make it clear whether protractor will continue with shared ownership or not ?

@srikanthkln I can't speak for Angular team, but as I know they going to continue and keep Protractor live. From another side, everything changes often and I don't know what will be actually.
