[Enhancement]: new progress status for library item - add "mark as aborted" additional to "mark as finished"

Open Gru0810 opened this issue 1 year ago • 10 comments

Describe the feature/enhancement

some of my users starts a audiobook listen a few minutes and then decide to stop listening this book because the narrator reads not good or the story is not good or something else is not good. It would be very helpfull to save this "mark as aborted" like "mark as finished". A red bar in the buttom of the Pic to show "aborted" can indicate this status like the green one "finished". So user see immediatly " oh, i have aborted this audio book".. This status must also be a elemtn to filter: image

use value -1 as "mark as aborted" for field isfinished in table books use 1 to 5 to rate "Mark as finished"

A master filter side by side of "search" would be very helpful to exclude "finished and anorted" item from every view (library, series, home..)

"Did Not Finish" (DNF) would be conventional terminology, aligning with most of the tracking apps out there.

I can see this being useful. Marking a book as DNF would ideally remove it from Continue Listening and Recommendations, but preserve the progress/session history.

This is what "Remove from continue listening" is for. You have a book with progress but you don't want to continue it and you don't want to remove your progress. The discover shelf only shows books you haven't started.

"DNF" sounds perfekt and remove from shelf "continue listening" is essential. What do you think about the value - 1 for "DNF"?

Remove from continue listening is already added

Sounds good to me. My only question — is there a way to see the list of books you’ve previously marked “remove from continue listening” and undo it for a given book, or does this not have a place in the UI at the moment?

ok, I see on WebGUI "remove from continue listening" and I see a filter "Progress: not finished" Today I have 1480 Items: that's correct image for "Filter "Progress: finished" I got 51: that's correkt image For Filter "Progress: in progress" I got 4: from my point of view that's not correct I must only got 3 : ecluded items "Remove from continue listening ( db field "hideFromContinueListening") Today I have no chance to find out which item i marked as "remove from continue listening (=DNF) in my case the red framed image

for filter "Progrress; not started" I got 1425: that's correct image and now for filter "progress :not finished i got 1429 !!: but from my point of view this flilter must only show ( in my case) 1 Item image

.and with a red progressbar so the user see immediatly " this item was abortet / canceled / did not finished ...)

With a change of filter-criteria for "Progress: in progress" and "Progress: not finished" I got a correct summationof 1480 of the Items-count by each Progress filter image

Nevertheless "Remove from continue listening" is missing on App!

I'm not sure about everything above, but +1 for the concept of having a "Did not finish/DNF" option for books. I think that for those books the full green line under the cover image should be a red line showing the book was discarded because it sucked (or for any other reason, but I would infer that it sucked).

+1 for a DNF completion state. The progress bar could change color to display the state in the library. Red seems appropriate.

(Example purposes only. Not an actual opinion on any books featured.)

I would purpose this: yellow the part you have listen, red the part you skipped:

Normally after some minutes you can decide if you want to continue listening or not.

This is "cosmetic" but is aligne with yellos = progress, green=finished.

But more importend from my pont of view is the missing possibility to filter for "remove from continue listening" = abort = DNF.

Gru0810 avatar May 09 '25 16:05 Gru0810

I'm personally good with or without keeping the yellow progress bar, in addition to the red. Just showing red as announcing DNF is enough for me. And depending on how far into the book you got before abandoning, it might be confusing with the mix of colors in the library view: most nearly completely red, some more 50/50, maybe one you got angry with at the end and it's 95% yellow.

Here I've mocked up a DNF progress display box inside the book page.

And current display as reference.

+1 for a DNF completion state that we can filter out along with completed books.
