Help with setting up

This might be a stupid question but is it possible to set this app up and trying to enhance it a bit by adding the notifications of peaks with heartrate.

But i'm getting an error while setting up, the program can't find the googel service json file, there's an encrypten one in the file. So the quesiton is , is it allowed and possible to enhance the app a bit for personal use and if so, could you help me setting it up in android studio.

You can get your own google-services.json file here or remove the play services dependencies in the gradle file.
