Checkin functionality for events

Description

A common discussion point for the activist community is that it would be good to eventually have a checkin function for events. This would allow people to provide a proof of participation or fulfilling certain roles. Some notes on this:

• It's likely not a good idea for this feature to be enabled for events by high risk organizations
• We could have this function either through a scanned QR code or using location services based on the location of the event
• For online events this could still function with the QR code that could be scanned over a call

The purpose of this event is to discuss this feature and eventually to implement, but this is not currently on the roadmap :)

Sorry for the late response here, @JerryW04! Lots going on :) Maybe something that would be a bit of a larger issue would be #718? That would be you integrating some transit options into the map component, which is fairly well maintained. Might be a bit much though. Another map one would be #678 that I could reassign as the person working on that is also working on something else :) That would be a bit more manageable.

If you had interest in doing some research for us, then maybe checking out #639 would be really cool as we would like to look into federation at some point, and maybe that would be an interesting topic to learn about :) :)
