dealer button should not skip inactive seats

@sunify asked:

  1. Did you mean only busy seats (active and sit-outs?) or all seats at the table?
  2. What seats will be sb and bb if dealer button placed on inactive seat? Next active ones after dealer?

@mateleshkavo we discussed on friday, that button should always move, even over inactive (and empty?) seats. what if players are on a 10-player table. 2 active, 8 inactive, then SB/BB positions would always stay the same for 9 hands, and switch in only 1 hand?

So in general it's more about SB and BB rules. I mean if on previous hand you payed BB, then on this hand you should pay SB no matter on how many players have sit-in during this time. So dealer button should move even if player is in sit-out but it was his turn to be a dealer.

Hmm. In this case we are getting two moving «cursors». We should rotate a dealer button on all busy seats (active + sit-outs) and SB on all active seats (it allows «if on previous hand you payed BB, then on this hand you should pay SB» behavior). Sounds complicated

I imagine that we can have an issue right away. If now is my turn to pay SB and I go to sit out that means that SB will be payed by the next player? If so then it's no good cause that player should pay BB in this hand.

Could we do one cursor for the BB and SB and dealer button would be derivatives from BB cursor?

One cursor is possible only if sb and bb will not skip inactive seats like dealer button

I'm not seeing the benefit of putting the dealer button on an inactive seat.

From WSOP rulebook:

Each round every player must get an opportunity for the button, and meet the total amount of the blind obligations (unless all-in – see irregularities). The following method of button and blind placement has been designated to do this: a. Dead button – The big blind is posted by the player due for it, and the small blind and button are positioned accordingly, even if this means the small blind or the button is placed in front of an empty seat, giving the same player the privilege of last action on consecutive hands (limit).
