Cutting down large trees leaves the canopy intact
Steps to reproduce:
- find really big tree (in mega taiga or jungle or whatever, with the fancy world generation on)
- cut down giant tree so that it falls
- observe that the top portion of the tree remains intact
I really love the tree felling mechanics in this pack but I'm currently going to have to disable them because I know I'm going to end up having an annoying canopy of floating tree branches above my house forever.
Thanks for your work on this fantastic pack, I picked it up yesterday and it's my favorite one ever!
Hey @Dibujaron,
Thanks for your report and kind words about Homestead! The trees have always been difficult to get right. :)
Originally I used the mod Timberjack. Its falling animation was more an explosion than a fall, though.
Eventually I replaced it with ChopDown. The mod worked a little more gracefully, but wasn't quite perfect either.
Homestead is primarily in Maintenance mode at this point, and I haven't made any dramatic changes to it recently. However since that time there's been a new mod release: Chop Down Updated. It does have a release for Minecraft v1.10.2, found here.
If you're feeling experimental, you can try replacing ChopDown with "Chop Down Updated" and see if it resolves the problem for you. If there's no other issues I might even include it in a new update.
If it does not resolve the issue, unfortunately there's not much else I can do as the modpack maintainer. I depend on mod fixes and if there's no fix, I can only redirect issues to their respective authors.
Thanks for reporting the issue though, and any time spend debugging. Cheers.
I can confirm that disabling ChopDown in the modpack and replacing it with Chop Down Updated like you suggested does fix this issue. Very very tall trees will no longer leave a few logs floating in the sky when you cut down a tree :)
Thanks for the confirmation. :)
