Unable to save edited note in mvim

Keeping everything else the same if I run after successful find

geeknote settings --editor vim

then run

geeknote edit 1 --content "WRITE"

It opens in vim, I edit, I save and quit and get this from geeknote:

Note has been successfully saved.

If I then run:

geeknote settings --editor mvim

then run the exact same commands. Everything opens in mac vim and all and I save, and I get the success message but it doesn't actually save. Any ideas?

I suspect that this is because mvim is used to simply launch the MacVim app. After the app is launched, it tells geeknote "OK, I'm done", it doesn't wait until you actually save and close the text.
