CS2 (Linux) Cannot play on secure servers - an issue with your computer is blocking the VAC system.
Your system information
-
System information from steam (
Steam->Help->System Information) in a gist: https://gist.github.com/rcannizzaro/33b00d743413e4b1680dc00f0cd7c6fd -
Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
I am receiving a VAC error indicating that my computer is blocking connection to the VAC system. This is the second time I've had this issue recently. The first time it randomly went away on it's own.
Steps for reproducing this issue:
- Attempt to join any game.
- VAC error produced.
- Exiting the game and restarting it does not fix the problem.
are you trying to run CS2 through Proton? or are you actually running the native version?

Running the native version.
Just ran into this, restarting Steam fixed it for me though
Did you by any chance use the -insecure launch option? I noticed that it gives the same error message.
This is happening randomly in the middle of the game for me as well as a result I've recieived a week long cooldown.

@kisak-valve whats the ETA on this being fixed?
Not working for me..
I've tried to reinstall both steam and CS itself, of course tried to verify game files, making sure i'm solely using runtime and making sure nothing else than the official softwares are being used. Not using Proton, making sure the official path is being used as well: /home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Counter-Strike Global Offensive
Using the latest version of vulkan, Nvidia drivers, steam, even made sure to generate and use the offical locales (en.US- UTF-8).
Rebooted multiple times, removing all kind of background processes, solely running Steam & CS. Still not working.
I tried some weird work-arounds I found on random forum threads, like changing your avatar & profile name while running CS2 (Seems to have solved it for some people), also starting a local server, playing against bots seems to have solved it for some people. Not for me though.
I have literally tried everything I have found online, actively trying to debug for at least 15 hours straight today. Seems impossible.

Has someone solved this VAC problem? I have done everything you can imagine, and nothing (eg. reinstall Linux).
I've just gotten this now whilst playing an Arms Race. I was kicked, no amount of retrying or reloading or rebooting lets me back in.
any solution to this ?
Still happening here.
Can confirm, got kicked in the middle of an arms race game and restarting steam, game, etc, launching steam in the runtime, didn't help.
As of 30.11.24 issue is still relevant. Got kicked out of a casual game on Ubuntu 24.04.01 I´ve experienced this on Windows 10 22H2 aswell.
This happens to me constantly. I'm running Bazzite with no special software installed other than Portmaster. The issue happens whether or not Portmaster is running. It happens after about an hour of playing, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Sometimes verifying game files temporarily fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes rebooting fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Rebooting into a different distro allows me to play again immediately every time, but the same issue happens under other distros as well. I'm not a cheater and have never modified any game files. I don't use skins other than what I've been "gifted" from the game after playing a certain amount of time. Steam is installed via Flatpak on Bazzite. I have Adguard running on my home network, but it doesn't show anything being blocked
I had the same issue. After writing the Steam Support and one Update later, my CS2 is running again and I hope this time it stays that way (Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon)
literally having this issue on CS:SOURCE. LOOOOOL
Sometimes I was kicked mid-game due to VAC timing out, and sometimes I was unable to even join matches.

Exact same issue. I'm on Fedora 41. While not a fresh install I barely modified anything. I installed CS and played 3 casual games and then got kicked. I run the native build on Steam.
I've seen some Windows user report this issue.. Could it be a router issue? I don't even know where to start to debug this.
Seems it happens very occasionally and randomly, there's nothing you can do when this pops up, it seems it's entirely server-side, you can only wait it out.
And it's really not okay. Refusal of service. People allot their time for their weekly CS session and then they can't play within that timeframe.
up!
