Your system information

https://gist.github.com/ppedro1/aff8837b06540ed27f0b370a51fca5b4

I am using a Logitech G Pro Wireless mouse.

  • Have you checked for system updates?: [Yes/No] Yes.

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Mouse movement is sometimes constricted and inconsistent. Sometimes I cannot aim up or down but can aim horizontally, when I can aim vertically it is much slower than aiming horizontally. There are no issues in the game menus or on desktop.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open CS2
  2. Create a practice server
  3. :(

Change to Fullscreen from Fullscreen Windowed in the Game Settings > Video portal.

KeironO avatar Sep 27 '23 21:09 KeironO

Change to Fullscreen from Fullscreen Windowed in the Game Settings > Video portal.

This does fix but then disables the possibility of playing in 4:3 resolution

@kisak-valve do you know if there are plans for CS2 to officially support Wayland? Aiming in CS2 feels horrible when playing through Xwayland (same problem as in CS:GO)... using an Xorg session it's perfectly well.

Change to Fullscreen from Fullscreen Windowed in the Game Settings > Video portal.

Thanks. Don't know if I should close this issue now or not. Anyway, fixed for me.

Don't close. Issue not fully fixed as it removes possibly using 4:3

For me, the mouse is completely broken, unless I play in native resolution i.e. can't move properly to the top-right, sensitivity feels off etc. Also, anything that isn't native results in this mess (fullscreen only) (might be it's own issue, unless the root cause is related): 2023-09-28_00-00

Edit: I can confirm that the refresh rate is locked to different values, on different resolutions.

Playing in 4:3 (either fullscreen or windowed fullscreen) has the following side effects for me:

  • Mouse sensitivity is WAY slower than usual
  • Screen refresh rate is locked at 75hz max instead of 240hz
  • UI is blurry (might just be the new UI scaling badly)

(Not sure if it belongs here) When opening the buy menu, the mouse isn't always reset to center, it will if the camera angle doesn't change and the buy menu is closed and reopened. It feels inconsistent and I'm often looking for my cursor on screen.

Same issue here. I'm tryign to play 1280x960 in fullscreen windowed because that res is not visible in fullscreen. It does run at 170hz, but the mouse is messed up. It keeps locking.

Change to Fullscreen from Fullscreen Windowed in the Game Settings > Video portal.

Issue occurs for me in fullscreen-windowed mode as well, and seems to be temporarily fixed by switching to another mode or vice-versa. But it comes back after a little bit.

Starting the game with -vulkan seems to make it go away.

Same Works in native resolution but not in 4:3 streched

I have the same issue. Trying to run at 16:9 / 1920x1080 on a 2560x1440 monitor. Running at 1080 in a window is fine but using windowed fullscreen or fullscreen doesn't work. For me the mouse inputs don't work properly when moving up or left, they either don't get detected at all or some are getting missed and the crosshair moves really slowly. I tried at from1000Hz mouse polling down to 125Hz, it helps with the problem but doesn't fix it.

Playing with a Logitech G403 on Fedora 38 and flatpak steam.

I also hit this issue in limited test when running the game via wine and using the -vulkan flag. It was fine when using dx11/dxvk under wine.

Anything that isn't native is affected. So playing with 720p on my 1080p monitor causes this mouse issue. Switching to native 1080p solves it.

It seems like an issue in xwayland + cs2.

cs2 will offset the pointer hint by your mouse movement, for some reason.

Same for me. Aim is pretty "strange"/terrible. Mouse stop moving at random time.

personally, it tends to happen more frequently when im aiming at someone, it also happens when theyre right behind a corner giving me a tiny heads up someone is coming but no way to do anything about it making it like the worlds shittiest wallhack

I'm experiencing this issue too (when playing in windowed fullscreen 4:3), making the game basically unplayable for me. I am using X and not wayland so I don't believe it's an xwayland bug. Hope this gets fixed soon.

thewindgods avatar Oct 01 '23 15:10 thewindgods

it needs to be fixed asap, 4:3 is just so scuffed with the font being all messy, mouse not working.

B0BAA avatar Oct 01 '23 17:10 B0BAA

Won't be touching the game until this is fixed

UI is blurry (might just be the new UI scaling badly)

This is off-topic, but for me setting CMAA2 anti-aliasing removed the blurriness/pixelation from the UI elements and almost everything else. Any MSAA setting makes the game look super pixelated around the edges. Running on 6900XT.

einarjegorov avatar Oct 05 '23 23:10 einarjegorov

For me the mouse only works properly on a native resolution. Otherwise it's unplayable, because Up and Left has different sensitivity from Down and Right (also super slow movements don't get registered at all)... it's ridiculous...

Playing with -vulkan, on Fedora 38, with Nvidia RTX 3070 and 535.113 drivers.

Also, I can confirm the off-topic comment, CMAA2 is way, way, way better looking, and has much better performance :)

Same issue here: cs2 is unplayable in a fullscreen windowed mode (or windowed and then maximized which is pretty much the same) if it isn't native resolution due to the absolutely broken sensitivity. The only way to play with non-native resolution for me is using fullscreen, yet it has some side effects:

side effects
  1. switching to another workspace takes some time to change screen resolution to the system one, and the cs2 workspace then has the game windowed in a strange way: it's placed to the upper left corner, and it still behaves like it's fullscreened (mouse cursor is locked inside) yet the ingame sensitivity is still adequate.

  2. if the game hard-freezes and i have to kill it, the system resolution isn't reset to the native, since there's no exit signal from the game itself. (i even had to make a keyboard shortcut to do that :D)

anyway, I guess that's how it's supposed to work on the system level.

Specs: Debian 12 (6.1.0-13-amd64) with i3wm. i5-4670, GTX 770.

I can confirm the same issue on: Arch 6.6.1 5800x3d 7900xt

However, since I'm in the middle of switching to Arch, only now did I try the csgo-vulkan-fix plugin for hyprland and it works. So whoever is using hyprland should try that out. I have no idea how it works (some faking of resolution without CS realizing it) but it works.

I had the same bug but it seems to be semi fixed.I can change resolutions now without mouse issues. The refresh rate however drops to 60 on any other native resolution.

Glad to hear that… for you. For me, they managed to screw everything up even more. 4:3 windowed, it's… windowed. 4:3 fullscreen windowed fixes the shooting, screws up the menus. 4:3 fullscreen is the reverse. Now even my hyprland fix doesn't work. Guess I'm going back to 16:9 -_-

EDIT: The hyprland fix still works. It seems something broke for one game start coincidentally.

Nah, nothing fixed for me. Still left and up movement is stucked and sensivity is crazy low.

pohmelie avatar Nov 25 '23 19:11 pohmelie

Step 1: Adjust your settings to a 16:9 aspect ratio in the main menu before entering the CS2 game.

Step 2: Once you are in the game, select your aspect ratio / resolution, and manually adjust it to your preference.

Step 3, if you encounter mouse-related issues, resolve them by alt-tabbing out of the game and then reselecting the CS2 game window.

This adjustment should effectively restore proper mouse functionality, ensuring a smoother gaming experience with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It's worth noting that this may temporarily disrupt mouse coordination in menus, but it serves as a quick fix for the issue.

5 months later and this issue has not been addressed. Game is totally unplayable and I will not switch to 16:9, I rather not play. Very disappointing from Valve.

sangoku116 avatar Feb 28 '24 08:02 sangoku116

Btw, same thing on Windows: sensitivity broken when play in Fullscreen Windowed mode with any resolution except native.

Conusoid avatar Feb 28 '24 09:02 Conusoid

same issue, completely unplayable. the problem isnt there on windows for me, but on linux my mouse is extremely inconsistent
