Wake-on-Bluetooth Support

Open lain-core opened this issue 3 years ago • 11 comments

Recently I have been using the Steam Deck with the TV, however I noticed that when using a paired BT controller it would not wake until I went to the console itself.

I figure this is to do with how sleep mode functions and the bluetooth stack being stopped or idle in that time. It would be nice to have Wake-On-Bluetooth as a toggleable option, perhaps if a power adapter can be detected while in the sleep state so as not to hinder the battery life while away from home.

This is the main hindrance for using the deck with a TV (along with the lack of a Steam Controller 2!)

Wake-on-Bluetooth was working initially on SteamOS 3.5, but it suddenly stopped working.

Is this considered a bug by Valve staff?

This is supported on the Steam Deck OLED but not on the original model, it may be a hardware limitation. I upgraded to the OLED and this has been working as expected, but it would still be nice to see this come down to the LCD model if possible.

If what @SaltyBet says is correct, then it is not a hardware limitation.

Hi.

I'm using the OLED model.

I tested the following controllers:

  • 8BitDo Lite 2 (x2):
    • Both show as "Pro Controller".
    • Both wake the Steam Deck OLED.
  • 3rd party PS4 Controller:
  • XBox Series Controller (x4):
    • They all show as "Xbox Wireless Controller".
    • They all used to be able to wake the Steam Deck OLED, but now they are not able to.

BT Wake Control info, blue are reported as capable and can be toggled on/off, grey are reported as not capable and cannot be toggled on/off):

YES

NO

I can confirm that this doesn't work on LCD model with PS4 controller.

@Plagman is there any hope for this on the LCD Deck? Or is this really hardware limitation and we should close this issue since it is completed for the OLED edition?

Any hope for LCD support with a usb adapter with a dock?
