Hi, there's a workaround for The King of Fighters XV online matches issue
It's related to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5187#issuecomment-980507627
So far working fine
In short I had to add ucrtbase.dll file to KOF XV binaries directory
After that online is working again
Wanted to report it over protondb page but I'm using Lutris and Epic store version of the game
I can confirm adding the ucrtbase.dll to /KOFXV/BINARIES on the steam version allows multiplayer to work. I will update protondb. with the instructions later. The question is why was this missing in the first place. I wonder if it has something to do with how unreal engine updates.
ucrtbase.dll is a core Windows DLL. It is the Universal CRT and it has been included in Windows by default since Windows 10. Older versions of Windows install it via Windows Update or via VCRedist packages.
Online works without any DLL overrides or custom configuration now aside from using Proton Experimental.
Currently there's an input inconsistency between Linux and Windows. Explained in issue #5527 The short of it is: up+down = up, and releasing up does not re-input down until down is released and pressed again. This is not how it functions on Windows and appears to be unique to KOF15.
KOF XV hangs for me in story mode when a video is supposed to be loaded.
