Feature description
Logo redesign, to reflect the changes that are coming to NewPipe. A more mature and modern look that is more distinct and less generic (many logos look very similar to the current one).
My proposal is a subtle change, based around the letter P, not just a play button. P for Pipe and P for Privacy (a core feature of the app). But yes, also for Play :)
The color is a more intense red (#CD0100). The symbol incorporates the circle of the original icon shape, but is nested inside a rounded square, which looks more stablished.
Why do you want this feature?
With the NewPipe that is to come (more modern and stable), i think the logo/icon should also reflect the change.
I think the current one is good, but looks a little generic, and it seems just like a play button in small sizes. Just a few similar ones from Google Images, most of them media player apps.
NewPipe is an established project in the privacy and open source community and the brand should be in tune with that. The change of direction for the project is a pretty fitting moment to update the brand.

Design process and ideas
Thanks for showing the in-process designs! Not a design person, so it's interesting to see the changes from one to the next.
Is there a way to incorporate a cylinder theme in there somewhere, to reference the 'Pipe' part?
Not a fan of the brighter red, personally. I prefer muted colours so that scrolling through my app list doesn't hurt the eyes. Maybe the app icon could change colour based on which service was last selected?
The rounded square is also too reminiscent of MIUI and other similar OEM skins.
Radical idea: Newpipe started as an alt Youtube client, hence the name. Now that it supports multiple services, a name change could also be considered.
For a more pipe-ish look that doesn't deviate too much i got this, which feels more like a bent pipe to me. I think it works on its own on a circular background, more reminiscent of the original.
Tried to do a more literal cylinder pipe icon, that looks like a P too, and try and make a new brand, cause i couldn't see a way to make the other one more literal.
Wondered about naming too just for fun, to get a new name that starts with P, but still pipe themed. Best I could come up with is Pipeer (Pipe + Peer). Everything else i came up with had already been used by a company or product.
Newpipe is still a solid name though. And unless the project changes direction a lot, I don't see a problem with it. I personally don't use the other services too much (must admit I forget about them). And surely most people just use Newpipe for Youtube.
Its fun to wonder anyway
The 'P' in the cylinder is not at all visible until pointed out, so I think that idea can be dropped. ๐
which feels more like a bent pipe to me
I like this idea. Is it possible to show the joints of the pipe where it turns? It'll create an optical illusion, which might look cool.
The cylinder one looks like a ๐งป when you look at it long enough ๐
The first is really nice ๐ , what software did you use for these? I need to make some logos for a personal project.

Thanks! I use Adobe Illustrator, but I think Inkscape can serve you the same purpose too Hit me up if you need help with anything :)
@jaimtres yeah I already use Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator is too expensive ๐ธ for the occasional artist in me ๐จ
I prefer the current logo. I'm a designer myself and I find the current logo much better than the suggested alternatives. The current icon is timeless. I would also keep the name for brand continuity.
Nowadays Android phones offer customisation for the UI and everyone can change the displayed icons on their phones to suit a theme. I have two instances of Newpipe currently installed and I use another icon for the 2nd instance so I don't mix them up.
So I would leave the current icon for people who still want the current one and let anyone change the icon on their phone.
As an average newpipe user that don't really has much design knowledge, I liked it more, actually! However, I think there is no need at all to change, the current logo is easy to recognize, still mostly modern (except for the sharp corners, looks somewhat outdated) and popular... Maybe this could cause some trouble in people not knowing at all what is the app.
As for my last comment, i have found out that the rounded newpipe logo looks more generic....oh well
Hello guys, The topic sounds familiar. Check out this old issue on the logo design.
I would love to have the option to change the background color of the icon like in Fossify Apps (previously SimpleMobileTools)
hi, I'm not a designer, I just love messing around with inkscape in my free time. I thought it would make sense to use the color palette from the refactored app screenshots, I also added rounded corners like @MuubNito mentioned.
I honestly don't think it looks that good, but I'm still sharing it anyway.
more examples if you're interested:
I created this in Infinite Design (Android), with the reasoning that it does not divert too much for users who are accustomed to the classic look, as well as subtly modernizes itself. This is inline with the jetpack compose refactor. It also looks more like a pipe being bent, along with a more apparent 'P' than the classic logo.
Decided to give this another shot, this time I legitimately like the result. It's basically the one made by @jaimtres but recolored.
Any thoughts?
