Partial screen drawers

As someone who personally feels that the bottom sheet method is much less convenient than the sidebar method, I of course try to use apps that feature sidebars instead of bottom sheets (which require constant shifting of the phone in the hand, since holding it from the bottom just makes it far more likely to fall, with most phones nowadays built to break from such falls).

Unfortunately, I noticed that the sidebars follow the newer Material Design You guidelines, and as such are not sidebars but entire screens, which in my opinion completely destroys the whole point of sidebars, which is to visually help place your fingers in such a way as to move it as least as possible.

Could you please add an option to use actual sidebars that do not cover the whole screen when opened, similarly in idea to how it is implemented in SmartCookieWeb?

Both SmartCookieWeb and Fulguris are forks of Lightning. Lightning did feature partial screen drawers and so does SmartCookieWeb.

Fulguris is using full screen drawers as the only advantage partial screen drawers have over full screen ones is that you can tap the screen beside them to close them. To close the full screen screen drawer you can use the back action, swipe or button depending of your phone settings. You can also swipe it closed if you configure Fulguris to unlock the drawers. Go to Settings / Look & Feel / Locked drawers and disable it.

I'm assuming the fact that you could not swipe open and close the drawers was your issue. Or is it that you really want to be able to see a tiny bit of the web page when the drawer is open?

See also #492.

Thanks for clarifying.

Actually, there is a second benefit to partial screen drawer, which I had mentioned, but probably not explained very well, and that is the visual aspect, which translates into less latency between the eye and the brain, since you see where you wish to press earlier in the drawer open/close transition.

So while being able to press outside of the drawer is one benefit that I do want, it is also to be able to see some of the web page while the drawer is open, and have the transition take a few milliseconds less.

I took a look at #492, and it is not what I was talking about, although it does have to do with it (and yes, I did unlock the drawers before posting this issue).

On the whole though, I do love what I am seeing here, and am looking at switching over to Fulguris from SmartCookieWeb (I am an old Lightning Browser user, before I switched over to SmartCookieWeb because of where development was taking place, which made me very happy to hear that Fulguris also shares the same roots) for my main browser (the Gecko-based SmartCookieWeb Preview is my secondary).

So my assumptions were wrong and you really do want partial screen drawers. In theory it should not be difficult to add one extra settings option for that but I really don't see this as priority.

Thanks, I really do appreciate that. I can certainly understand this not being a priority, and won't try pushing you.

In the meantime, for those who are alright with fullscreen sidebars and/or bottom sheets, I'll make sure to recommend Fulguris, as I genuinely like what is going on here.
