Event list revamp: New UI is difficult to read

Open Moini opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

Hi!

After updating to 6.16.1 Pro from f-droid, the event list shows the times in a minuscule text below the event names. This seems to be the result of 'making the event list more compact'. Even with making the font larger, it's still difficult.

I think this is really bad UX, as the most important thing about the event is its time (and date)!

Please make the times larger again, and show the weekday name again on the dates and make them larger again to look more like headers, so that users can easily get an overview about their days again (or at least give people an option to do so), without having to spend lots of energy on trying to figure out time and date. This was so much better with previous versions!

What I do not need are the frames around each event, those add noise and make things harder to read, too.

I'm going to downgrade for the time being :-( – the current UX just isn't working for me.

The last good version is 6.15.4.

I appreciate the attempt to improve the list's UI (#1211) , but I second this feature request. The things @Moini mentioned generally also apply to the list in the widget. It's too cluttered with one line per month, a oddly formatted date (at least from a German perspective), which is pretty small and also has its own line.

Additionally I also think that the time is the most important bit of an appointment, so it should be the top of each calendar entry in a list.

@tibbi maybe you can give especially the list view another round of UI cleanup. The direction is right to me, but the layout of the items needs to be simplified.

Same for me. I loved the old event list in the widget. I don't know if this is a bug but the new widget definitely looks different from the preview shown in the app settings when customizing the appearance.

Imho there are 2 main problems with the new UI:

  1. 5 different font styles is way too much. I would stick to 3 or even 2, possibly dropping completely the month indication or replacing it with a simple horizontal line
  2. The day (which is the most important information in the event list) is way too small and almost illegible

Thank you @tibbi for your effort, I hope you will manage to improve the UI!

@Stack-it-up I've never used the widget - is its design identical to the calendar view inside the app? Because my report is about that, not about the widget.

I've tested the latest version regarding this issue, and it still is persisting (so I downgraded again....).

When I scroll in the list, I cannot see what month I'm currently in. The information about the weekday is prominent, but I don't know why it's wasting space for that instead of telling me where in the year I am currently (and in which year...).

Also, the spacing between entries is much too large - not even a full day fits into one screen.

The widget indeed shows the same kind of list, and while it only shows a single day, that's less of a problem - except for the space waste.
