Right Click Context Menu appear two choice of upload to virustotal - duplicate menu

Open frankieyim opened this issue 9 months ago • 2 comments

I am writing to seek your assistance with an issue I have encountered on my computer. When I right-click, I notice that there are two options for "Upload to VirusTotal" appearing in the context menu. This duplication is causing some inconvenience, and I would like to resolve it.

Could you kindly provide guidance on how to remove the duplicate "Upload to VirusTotal" option from the right-click menu?

Thank you for your attention and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response.

Same here i have also tried using sysinternal tools and nirsoft tools to remove one of the entries but somehow they do not detect any of the virustotal context menu entries.

Depending on how you look at it I have restarted my my thus mt explorer multiple times by now but thanks for the reply I will wait for an update hopefully this will be fixed in the next release?

It appears that the spare package may not be registered correctly. I suspect the context menu is reading the verb directly from the registry, which is likely causing the item to appear twice.

I already tried using tools like autorun64 and nirsoft tools to try and remove the registry key but somehow both tools can,t find it so i still have the double entry.

@copywizard Regarding the context menu integration he uses, as previously mentioned, the source code for it is not publicly available and must remain proprietary/private.

Ok but still does this mean this cannot be fixed becasue it needs to stay private?

I'm not the original developer of this, and unfortunately, the source code is not available. I had intended to assist with fixing it, but without the code, I'm unable to proceed.

This seems to be a problem with the installer and probably has to do with the entry for the Windows 11 context menu. If the installer is misconfigured or the code not probably signed than the entry that should be displayed in the Windows 11 context menu, will be displayed in the "old" context menu. And the Windows 11 context menu entry is not working that's why you have two entries in "old" one. That is at least my guess. Only Samuel would be able to fix this because he is the only one able to sign the code again.
