Name (and release date) proposal for 6.e

So far, Raku versions have had names related to religious festivities: c was Christmas, d was Diwali.

We haven't opened the Pandora box of naming the next version, but I'd like to propose one: Epifanía. It means "revelation", and it's, in Spanish-speaking countries and many others in Europe, the traditional day of gift-giving for children.

The fact that I write it in Spanish is because that give us a release date: 6 de enero, 6.e, or January the 6th, which is the traditional day it takes place. In same spirit of the 6.c and 6.d releases, it can be released in that date. It's too early to say the year, but January 6th looks like a nice day to give the gift of Raku!

Unless I'm mistaken, Epifanía is the same holiday as Epiphany, right? So we could use that holiday with either (or both!) its Spanish and English names while keeping it as the E release.

Indeed — it's the same (although the exact day it is celebrated in modern times may vary some, the traditional date and most common date is still the 6th).

I'm biased for Epifanía for a number of reasons, but ultimately because I think kick starting a tradition of naming things in other languages could be a great way to recognize the international nature of contributors (and of the language itself).

Regardless the language, if 6.e is looking to be ready around the new year, it's perfect IMHO.

The main reason I proposed it in Spanish is because 6.e is like "6 de enero" in Spanish, which is the actual Epiphany day. I like also what Matthew is proposing. LaTeX had a new versioning convention based on the digits of Pi. Beyond 6.e, nothing would bar us from using international holidays, and their accompanying first Unicode character.

Note on the original paragraph: I would say that we chose holidays rather than explicitly mention the religious component of those holidays.

I'm fine with Epifanía, but would also suggest Eid (breaking the fast... of the long time since 6.d), and also vote against Easter (we did already have Christmas).
