When using alt to orbit the camera, the surface edit mode UI disappears

As shown in the gif, the selection highlights and hover highlights disappear when holding ALT. No other edit mode exhibits this behaviour

This was intentional so that you can more clearly see the texturing ... do you think that "feature" should be removed?
