What enhancement would you like to see?

An ongoing issue I've seen become more frequent lately is confusion about donations, and after discussing this with someone affected I've come to the conclusion that a large part of the issue is on our end. We are not doing a good job communicating what the donations are and how they work, leading to confusion. I will be pulling the key points out of that conversation and putting them here. To see the full discussion, here is a link to the Discord thread https://discord.com/channels/408718485913468928/1278932937034960929.

The main issue is that the way we present the donations page makes it look like a product being purchased, when in fact it is not. This is caused by the use of words like "upgrade", and the structure of the donations page. To quote the affected user from the Discord thread:

I would for sure consider revamping the upgrade page though, as the tier descriptions implied to me that you're specifically paying for those benefits. The page in general looks much more like a pricing tier page from a company rather than a donation page. The only actual mention of donation on the site that I could find was the donate button at the top and bottom of the page, which seemed separate from the "upgrade" mentioned twice on the account page.

This highlights a clear failure on our part to communicate the intent of the donations. To quote myself from the Discord thread:

It was designed the way that it is in order to try and emulate Patreon (as this is a direct replacement for our old, defunct, Patreon). But I can see how it would be confusing and mislead people, I believe initially we decided to use words like "upgrade" as at the time it seemed more clear based on the outcome, rather than the intentions. Which, looking back, is actually just more confusing a poor choice

Donations are not product purchases, they are donations to a cause (in this case, helping fund the development of Pretendo Network), and as a thank you for said donations we give back to those users. To quote myself from the thread again:

This would be like if you saw there were donations for a cause (let’s saying funding the building of a new school) and if you donated then you got a shirt, which comes in various colors, and you really wanted a specific shirt. The people running the donations aren’t selling anything, the point is funding the cause. They’re collecting donations for a cause and giving shirts and a thank you. You get your shirt and see it’s not the color you wanted, and try to take your donation back. But the shirt was never an actual sale. It was an extra that came with a donation, the point of the donation was to help the new school, not the shirt, regardless of what the person donating had intended

That’s what our donation system is setup like. The point of the donation is to help fund the project, it’s not a product being sold. The extras that come with it are intended to show gratitude for helping fund development, nothing more and nothing less. Research and development of our servers is the new school here

We should implement new page designs which remove the confusing usage of the word "upgrade" and to try and better communicate on the donations page that these are not products being sold. We still need to communicate what "thank yous" users will get with said donations somehow, but we should try to not make it look like a store product page as best we can.
