Plan to package dynomite for Debian

Open GarageDeveloper opened this issue 9 years ago • 6 comments

Dear all,

I'm planning to package dynomite and get it included into Debian. I've just filed an ITP (Bug #842113 concerning this.

One question: is the yaml-0.1.4 used for static linking an hard dependency or is it just to simplify the build process for people? I prefer to ask as I've modified the build process for Debian to dynamically link against the version actually present in unstable (yaml-0.1.6) and would not like to create regressions or things like that.

Thanks, Raphaël

Great, thanks! I do not believe it is a hard dependency. You can file also file a PR if you want to update to the latest yaml-0.1.6. You will need to update the corresponding files under the /contrib folder.

Hi, thank you for your answer. I may do a PR so that we are all in sync although in the case of the Debian packaging I just need to link on dyn libs already in the distribution (this is mandatory). At the moment I just modified 2 .ac files to simply ignore the embedded yaml distributed with dynomite. I'll keep you updated. Thanks.

Hi @GarageDeveloper , did you could to package and include into Debian? Thanks in advance!

Hi @Fededon13, sorry for the lag and best wishes :) I had rapidly a working package and was in contact with people able to upload to Debian. However, to get an acceptable package, I need to work on the copyright things to comply with debian policy. That's where I was when I stopped working on it. So, in short: yes and no, lack of time. The first thing that needs to be done is to remove external sources from the dynomite tarball (in particular the yaml source distribution which should definitely be treated as an external dependency and so distributed and built separately. Note that this may be the case today, I did not check). I plan to rework on this here and there in the next weeks and if I'm not able to do so, I guess I'll give up and tell you about that. Thank you for your patience.

@GarageDeveloper I'm interested in packaging dynomite for Debian (not necessarily have it uploaded to Debian as-is, but a "proper" DFSG-compliant package), so if you have some partial work somewhere on github or on any other SCM I'd be interested in helping. If not, I'll post here the URL where you will find my work.
