Lookup Dropdown: Can't use multiple Dropdowns as picklists on a single form, wrapped text breaks selection

Whenever I use more than one of these controls on my page the selector no longer selects records or allows me to update the data:

select one dropdown that worked before when it was the only control using the feature on the page, nothing is selected when I click on an option from the dropdown:

Separately and somewhat similarly, if the label wraps on the configuration, an option cannot be selected either, the fix I found so far involves shortening the text length or increasing the pixel real-estate to address (not ideal):
