Release vs tag note
Note that the release badge honors the checkbox for pre-release or not. And the tag will use v0 as orange pre-release. Based on my testing show here before updating the release
Also tags always show tag if there is ne. But the release will only show releases and not pre-releases. There is another badge for pre-release. So I am preferring tag badge for now.
In terms of a destination, the release tab

So consider linking to releases from tags badge.
