Hello! I want to translate Cookbook to Russian language. May I do it? May I collect donations? Thanks! Filipp

The cookbook license permits translations.

Donations, I don't feel its wrong for people to be compensated. Others may have different perspectives.

cc @vindarel who is the lead maintainer these days.

My personal opinion is if you print it as a translation, it should not be for profit. Many people have contributed to this collection of documents, and they did not do it for others' profit.

That is to say, my view is that any print output should (1) respect the licensing of the work and (2) be essentially at cost (https://www.google.com/search?q=%22at+cost%22) as a public service.

The specific license of this work is at license.md

You're welcome to translate it to Russian. We would refer your work on the index. We have ongoing translations to other languages.

You could ask for donations on your project, like I ask for donations here (and like any meaningful contributor could do).

As for selling physical copies, besides questions regarding the licence, my personal opinion is that if you sell your russian translation, that's fair, and in general you'll want to be a good citizen: contributing what's required to create the book, or enhancing the existing ebook, etc. If you want to sell hard copies of this present English edition on all popular platforms, that's something else.
