[FEATURE] Review Mode

Is your feature request related to a problem? If so, Please describe.

Several different customers have described to us troubles with reviewing pipeline-generated annotations. In particular, they get confused about what they have and have not reviewed, which I agree is a real concern. #587 solves a very small part of this.

I think in general the workflow of looking at and correcting annotations is very different than creating from scratch, and calls for different controls. Some of the annotation controls may be getting in the way of review.

Describe the solution you'd like

Some kind of review mode where we add a "reviewed" state to each track so that an indicator of whether or not a track has been reviewed appears. Maybe a green checkmark or something in the track list.

  • Split/join are used in review mode, but not during creation
  • There should be a way to accept a track as-is without making changes.
  • Making changes (changing the type) should automatically mark a track as reviewed.
  • This should persist, so a review can span multiple sessions.
  • We could even show review progress on the dataset list (next to "Launch annotator" or on the recents page".
  • Running pipelines immediately puts a dataset into review mode.

I'm thinking this could change the entire interface kinda like google docs editing mode vs comment mode. The toggle might be up on the toolbar near the save button.

These are just ideas. No other interface I'm aware of has this sort of review-first interface.

@subdavis the labels include type: question but this seems like a pretty straightforward feature request. Can I remove that label?

The question is about whether or not this should be a feature request at all.

If this feature meets a legitimate need for DIVE users, and especially if that gives us a unique edge, then I think we should do it.
