Higher resolution animations

As discussed on zulip, the current animations being shown seem to be fairly low res. It'd be good to eventually produce higher res gifs or videos.

Thanks for opening the issue. Some more comments for now:

Currently they are all 500x500 pixel to have a fast render which can be easily changed by the user but yeah as discussed a good solution would be to use svg and some svg like gif option.
