Use different Tab Stash root folders on different profiles/computers

Open sebas6691 opened this issue 4 years ago • 7 comments

Problem Statement

I have multiple Firefox User Profiles and I use each profile for a different purpose, such as work, study and private. (add-ons and open tabs are NOT synchronized between User profiles). I installed Tab Stash on two of those different profiles and noticed that all Stash Groups and stashed tabs are linked between the two User Profiles. For me, this makes having user profiles in Firefox useless.

Preferred Solution(s)

It would be great if the data of Tab Stash is not shared (or linked) between User Profiles (or at least have the option to disable sharing data between user profiles). This way I can have multiple Firefox User Profiles, each with their unique Stash Groups and Stashed Tabs.

Alternative Solution(s)

Nesting stash groups (or sub groups). So the parent groups can be Private, work and study (like my user profiles) each parent group with children groups.

Hi, I would guess from what you're describing that you have bookmarks synced between your different profiles. If so, that is why your stashes are being synced—Firefox is bringing your bookmarks into all your profiles through Firefox Sync, and since Tab Stash uses your bookmarks for its storage, all your stashed tabs are thus appearing in every profile.

The quickest way to avoid this limitation is to turn off bookmarks sync, although I understand why you might not want to do that.

Another thought I had might be to add a per-browser option to choose the name of the folder to use for your stashes—so all your stashes are still saved and accessible in your bookmarks, but different browsers/profiles/computers might save them under different folders (depending on which name you chose). What are your thoughts?

Hi, I indeed have bookmarks synchronized, turning it off is not an option I prefer.

The different folder for each stash sounds like a good solution to me. How can I achieve this?

Thank you in advance!

There's no way to do it right now, it's something I'll have to add in a future version. Guess I didn't make that very clear in my reply, sorry about that! Now that I know it will work for you, though, I'll keep it in mind going forward.

Aah alright! Thank you for clearing that up. Looking forward to see this feature in a future version of your add-on. Thank you!

Per this comment it would be also good to report which folder Tab Stash has detected as the root folder.
