"Failed! Recheck input for errors" when trying to download a video

Open schorschii opened this issue 3 years ago • 10 comments

I'm unable to download this video via ytdl-gui. It says "Failed! Recheck input for errors". Interestingly, it works when downloading audio only, the error only appears when selecting to download video.

youtube-dl on the command line can download the video without any problems.

Maybe the error message should show more details about what exactly failed (youtube-dl stderr output, return code).

6/6/22 I'm getting the same "Failed! Recheck input for errors."

Now unusable for me too! Was a great program - simple and easy to use.

Hello, I am the developer of this application. I didn't have the time to maintain it over the last few months because I was focusing on my work. I used this as a personal project to learn and in part to get work as a developer. Your comment inspired me to take the time over the coming week to get it back up and running. There have been changes to the youtube-dl application that have complicated things further, with people recommending yt-dlp instead. I didn't think many people were using it anymore, or even wanted to use it, as there are plenty of ways to get youtube videos. Your comment made my day, and so I'm going to pay more attention to the application again.

The beauty of coding is being lost. Youtube-dl is a good example of what coding should be - something simple and eloquent which gets the job done with ease.  It's a nice piece of coding - no flash, bells & whistles.

I use this program regularly, and are sad to see that is has broken. I hope it can be fixed. If anyone else knows an easy way to download audio from youtube on Linux, please let me know.

Same here - wonderfully simple app, which used to do exactly what it should. Now it's no longer usable, which is a shame.
