New Instance found for Projects Portal: Bandai Namco
Presented on the Summit 2025, I'll refine later, you can assign this to me.
Thank you for collecting all of this info that you discover at the ISC summit!
@dellagustin-sap I am assuming this was mentioned as part of this ISC Summit 2024 presentation?
Shall I use that whole video as evidence that Bandai Namco Studios has implemented the InnerSource Portal pattern? Or was there a specific section in the video talking about how they adopted it?
Maybe at around 13:33 in the video? Takeshi Yaegashi talks about how they adopted the InnerSource Catalogs approach from the Managing InnerSource Projects book. I believe that is roughly the same concept that is called InnerSource Portal in our patterns.
Hello @spier , yes, I think that 13:33 in the video is the reference, BUT, in the next slide @yaegashi mentions it being a blueprint development, so I'm not sure if it is already implemented. @yaegashi, could you please clarify if your catalog solution using backstage is already in use?
Thank you for your attention, @dellagustin-sap @spier
Yes, my talk was about a type of InnerSource Portal, which focuses more on addressing the issue of fragmented collaboration portals (GitHub, GitLab, etc.) within an enterprise.
As you mentioned, it is still in the blueprint development phase, but the beta service will soon start in our organization this year. I'm going to publish the implementation details at opportunities like local ISC meetups, possibly in Q2.
@yaegashi thank you for the feedback.
In that case I suggest that we wait until you have your version of the InnerSource Portal live. Once you are ready to share more about how it works in practice, we can add Bandai Namco to the pattern as a known instance.
Will earmark this for Q2/2025, to get back it then :)
@yaegashi Is there anything new from your organization with regards to creating a portal that combines projects from fragmented version control systems?
Btw it is possible that your case is more an example of the Unified Source Code Inventory pattern than of the InnerSource Portal pattern really.
