Pattern idea: Scoring Grid

Question from the Sept/2021 community call:

Curious to know if we have a source code score/ranking format, which can tell us how much behind we are from being called InnerSource project?

One idea proposed was a scoring grid, that would assign grades (from A-F) for each project based on vectors like:

• README.md
• CONTRIBUTING.md
• LICENSE
• PulL Requests
• CODEOWNERS
• CI

To start creating the pattern I would suggest these next steps:

1. take the pattern template and copy the content into a new file e.g. "patterns/1-initial/scoring-grid.md"
2. start filling in the different sections based on the documentation in the template
3. submit a PR with your first draft, to get feedback from the InnerSource Patterns working group (and anybody else reading your PR really)

My recommendation it to spend max 1-2 hours on this first draft. That way we can quickly confirm if the different sections of the pattern template make sense to you, and if you have any further questions. We can then improve the pattern in further iterations until we have a version that we are happy to share more broadly.

The TODOGroup has the good old repolinter for that. One can and should safely recycle or extend that one. Valid point and effort I've seen myself too.
