Purpose of this repo and specifically the main README
@lenucksi raises an interesting point in this conversation.
We should also add our patterns videos on YT [to the README] for the people that like videos. There are two rather popular videos explaining the "what, why, how" aspects in our YT account.
This made me reconsider the purpose of this repo and specifically the main README.
I think we should ask ourselves what we want this repo to be:
- the entry point for "everything Patterns"
- a place for people that just want to read patterns
- the source code for the Patterns book
- something else
The answer could also be a combination of the above.
Possibly related?
This might also be related to this Slack thread where the main questions were:
- where do we want the link http://innersourcecommons.org/patterns/ to point to
- we might want to introduce a middle page [on innersourcecommons.org] once we have more offerings, or a page on the gitbook
My personal answer to the question "What do we want this repo to be":
- [no] the entry point for "everything Patterns"
- => I am not sure where this should be though. Maybe a landing page on innersource.org that can then point to the book, to youtube videos, etc?
- [undecided] a place for people that just want to read patterns
- => The starting point for the pure "reader type" should be innersourcecommons.gitbook.io/innersource-patterns/. There they can read all mature patterns.
- => If they want to read even more (i.e. also Donuts etc) then the "reader types" would currently have to go to the repo. However at that point they are slowing morphing the "contributor type", ain't they? :)
- [yes] the source code for the Patterns book
- => yes, that's what this repo is for me. So for the most part only the "contributor type" of our users should have to care about this repo
