Seeking new maintainer!

Open leeper opened this issue 7 years ago • 18 comments

This package is not being actively maintained. If you're interested in contributing or taking over, please express your interest here.

leeper avatar Jun 08 '18 10:06 leeper

Not sure that I'd totally take over, but I might be up for signing-on in part to help maintain. If someone else is interested, I'll gladly defer. If you don't hear from anyone by July 1, would you like to do a Skype call to talk about this a bit?

ghost avatar Jun 08 '18 14:06 ghost

Sure.

@DeclareDesign (@jaspercooper @graemeblair and @acoppock) were thinking of using dataverse, may be interested in future of this package.

Great! I also left you a comment over at https://github.com/DeclareDesign/DesignLibrary/issues/70#issuecomment-398106850

If there's anything we can do to help you get up to speed, please let us know!

@monogan I've been waiting to reply to thank you until my slides from last week were published: https://twitter.com/philipdurbin/status/1007680649136832518 . I gave your website (and use of Dataverse widgets) a shout out:

Thanks to all for you interest in becoming maintainers! We will be happy to put your name up in lights at future versions of http://guides.dataverse.org/en/4.9/api/client-libraries.html#r

Thanks for the shout-out and web traffic, @pdurbin. I'll also mention to anyone on this thread that if someone would like to be the chief maintainer, that's great, and I'll gladly defer. I'm certainly willing to offer a helping hand to keep this project active, though.

Hello all - is this package being maintained now or is it still in limbo?

tmrozewski avatar Sep 05 '18 22:09 tmrozewski

@tmrozewski I'm not sure. Are you interested in helping? 😄

pdurbin avatar Sep 06 '18 14:09 pdurbin

If I could I would - sadly, I don't have the chops!

@monogan has expressed interest in taking over and is exploring it.

leeper avatar Sep 06 '18 17:09 leeper

Hi everyone! I write to confirm that @leeper is right. Literally about 24 hours before @tmrozewski posted this, I had been in touch with Thomas about what it would take for me to pick up the point on this. I've got to work through some stuff to make sure I can swing it, but will let you know if we make that transition.

Oh yea, and thank you Thomas @leeper for writing the package!

ghost avatar Sep 06 '18 19:09 ghost

love this package; it's such important work, thanks to @leeper. Ping me if I can chip something in @monogan; I'm reasonably competent in pkg management and ci/cd stuff, though still a dataverse newbie.

maxheld83 avatar Oct 24 '18 14:10 maxheld83

@maxheld83 we were all Dataverse newbies once. Please feel free to pop in http://chat.dataverse.org if you have any questions! 😄

pdurbin avatar Oct 24 '18 20:10 pdurbin

Thank you @maxheld83. I haven't had a chance to dig into this yet. If you'd like to get involved, I can pass along some of what @leeper gave me to look over, and we can continue to discuss this. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail to continue this conversation!

ghost avatar Oct 29 '18 04:10 ghost

I currently don't have the bandwidth to take this on and am not currently using dataverse in any way, but will volunteer when both of those change.

maxheld83 avatar Jul 02 '19 11:07 maxheld83

I just invited @wibeasley to join https://github.com/orgs/IQSS/teams/dataverse-client-r/members which is the current "Admin" team (@leeper you're still in there as well).

This was after I merged pull request #24 by @wibeasley to get the tests passing on Travis and after he wrote some very nice messages at https://groups.google.com/d/msg/dataverse-community/j-cGlnpKs14/zW99LiLJAwAJ

THANK YOU, Will! I'm looking forward to working with you! Closing!

pdurbin avatar Nov 04 '19 11:11 pdurbin

@leeper & @pdurbin, Thanks for including me. I have two questions/requests.

  1. Will you add me to the GitHub team so I can make changes to these branches? I won't make changes directly to the master branch.
  2. @leeper, would you like to remain as the official "maintainer" defined by CRAN? This is the person that has to respond when CRAN sends warnings & notifications when the package needs to be updated (eg, a package dependency has made some backward-incompatible changes that is now breaking our code)

For quick reference, here are guidelines for the roles. And remember that the maintainer is poorly named the "creator"

  • page 65-66 of the R Journal article.

‘"cre"’ (creator) for the package maintainer

wibeasley avatar Nov 04 '19 19:11 wibeasley

@wibeasley hi! Yes, that's what I meant when before I said that I invited you to join the "team" on GitHub. I'm still seeing "pending":

I think if you go to your GitHub notifications there will be a link you can click to join the team? I'm not sure. Or maybe an email went out? I'll re-open this issue until this is resolved.

pdurbin avatar Nov 04 '19 20:11 pdurbin

Opening the issue for a call for new maintainer. See https://groups.google.com/g/dataverse-community/c/O81Bt4iTsbY/m/K6S3MX9BDwAJ
