Consistent naming of subnational flags

Open shankarsivarajan opened this issue 2 years ago • 6 comments

Some subnational flags have two hyphenated two letter codes, like cn-xj (China, Xinjiang) and in-ka (India, Karnataka), while others which are prima facie very similar, have standalone codes, either abbreviated like hk (Hong Kong) or spelled out in full like mizoram (Mizoram), instead of cn-hk (China, Hong Kong) and in-mz (India, Mizoram). EDIT: I have since learned that the relevant standard is ISO 3166-2.

Thanks for pointing these out. If there are any other inconsistencies, please let me know.

  • Renamed mizoram.svg to in-mz.svg (https://github.com/HatScripts/circle-flags/commit/5797a9642eeab04e0a06ef7447b6f3cc5ee37f8e)
  • Created cn-hk.svg symlink pointing to hk.svg (https://github.com/HatScripts/circle-flags/commit/b9b64f2be81a7fdcd65506178dca9b062cf456d7)

More in China and India, but some more dubiously so. manipur rename to in-mn (India, Manipur). tibet and taiwan: add symlinks cn-xz (China, Xizang Zizhiqu) and cn-tw (China, Taiwan). malayali: add a symlink in-kl for (India, Kerala).
