Call history loading is slow on app launch

Steps to reproduce the bug

Launch the dialer app. Keep history tab as default tab.

Next time close the app & reopen. Call history wont be already there but loads from phone storage each time if you open the app. Visible 1 second or 2 second gap comes to load call history.

Expected behavior

When launched, the call history should be there already and not load after opening the app

Actual behavior

It takes time to load call history each time i open the app

2. Also, please properly fill out the bug report. Which exact app version are you using (version number)? Which Android version do you have?
3. How many call history entries do you have? You can check it by long-pressing any entry.

Both are about optimizing loading, but this one concerns call history items, and the general issue concerns contacts.

https://github.com/FossifyOrg/Phone/issues/345 is a similar issue that could be solved by optimizing loading, but it's better to do a direct database search in that case.

But it helps right. Ok. Short version would be "each time I open the app, call history or any other tab takes time to load data"

2. Also, please properly fill out the bug report. Which exact app version are you using (version number)? Which Android version do you have?

i mentioned latest version (from fdroid). Funtouch OS 15. But my other Nokia with android 12 also same issue. And redmi note 10 with android 13 also

This is a new device just 5 call logs were there

Happens for me, as well. Version 1.6 on Fairphone 4 with Android 13. Same for contacts and favorites.

Me too. Up to 10 seconds to load, I deleted history a couple of weeks ago so it's not like there are thousands in there. Moto g13, Android 14. Google play services disabled in case that's making a difference.

Greetings, we recently installed Fossify Phone (ver 1.6.1), Messages (ver 1.2.2), and Contacts (ver 1.2.4) on our Moto G 2025 phones. Both phones have the same issue with Fossify Phone.... takes about 11 seconds to load the Call History. I have taken the following measures to attempt to resolve the delay:

1. Restart the phones
2. Uninstall then reinstall the Fossify Phone application
3. Clear the cache in the Phone application
4. Confirm all permissions are correct
5. Confirm available storage -- we have more than sufficient

No improvement in the call history load time. What else can be done, or this an application bug?

Hello,

Same issue on my redmi 14c with latest version 1.6.1 of phone installed:

• Loading of call history is slow when opening the app (only about 10 calls)
• Loading the contacts equally slow (but I have 4000 contacts stored on the phone)
• when somebody calls me, I only see the name a few seconds after the call comes in.
• same when I call someone, name appears a few seconds later.
• sometimes a message shows: call ongoing, even when the call is clearly finished.

I think the call log history displayed should be limited to the last say 30 calls and if you need to see older it should load while you scroll.

Another issue is how to limit the number of the calls logged as I have nearly 30 000 calls in mine and to be honest I don't see why this is needed.

Initial load is limited to 100. Better optimizations are needed. If you have a large number of contacts, that slows it down even more (due to https://github.com/FossifyOrg/General-Discussion/issues/220).

I meant loading will be optimized in the code. Changing the initial load count to 30 wouldn't solve this.

How many contacts do you have?

Maybe 100? Although, they all seem to be duplicated, since I got a Tuta account. Also, my main account is a WebDAV account, which I sync via DAVx5. Having said that, the stock Google Phone/Contacts app doesn't seem to have any performance issue with this setup.
