Feature description

I have a dual sim. If I want to call someone that's not already in the call history, I have to go to the contact tab and the choose that contact. The problem is that from there there seem to be no way to choose the sim to call that contact. So I have to first initiate call (which initiates from the default sim card), then stop the call immediately, go to the call history tab where that contact now appears, click on the three little dot on the right hand side and then choose the other sim card.

Using SMT Call / contact, it was possible, from the contact card, to long press on the phone number and it proposed the option "Edit number before call" which would then bring the dialling screen, and from there I could select the sim card...so this was kind of a workaround which is no longer there with this fork. - UPDATE: maybe I was wrong here as it seems the latest version of SMT Contact also did not have that the "Edit number before call" feature

Why do you want this feature?

This feels like a highly convoluted workflow just to call someone :) so while technically a missing feature it also feels like a bug by omission ;).

I second this, I basically have the same issue. This also applies to searching for a (n existing) contact using the dial pad, since in this case you need to select the contact, go to the three dots menu and then select the SIM. This could be made easier as well, by completing the number upon tapping on it or being able to choose the SIM to call from.

I have a dual SIM as well and following steps work for me: go to the contact tab, select a contact by long-pressing it and then click on three dots menu - there I have following options:

  • Call from SIM 1
  • Call from SIM 2

Yes, option to call from SIM1/SIM2 is already available:

@avatar1024 @tomcodemusic Do you guys not see these options?

@naveensingh I do see these options, as I wrote in my previous comment. My issue in this case is, that typing a full telephone number allows you to instantly choose the SIM before calling, while calling a known contact from the non-default SIM requires the long press and going via the three dots menu.

So for comparison, while typing the full number allows the following steps:

  1. Type full number
  2. Select SIM from bottom buttons
  3. Initiate call using the wobbling telephone button

I'd prefer a similar approach for contact calling:

  1. Start to type number until contact is visible
  2. Tap on contact to fill the number in the number field (just a suggested approach, there might be better ones)
  3. Select SIM from bottom buttons
  4. Initiate call using the wobbling telephone button

This would make the different ways of filling in the number more consistent, in my opinion.

But there might be differing opinions on this ;-)

Sorry I was too focused on the original issue.

Thanks for the (re)clarification! I see that your issue is related but it's about being able to easily search and call contacts using non-default SIM whereas the original feature request is about being unable to use non-default SIM without resorting to workarounds. I'm not sure if this long press can be easily avoided when one SIM is set as default for calls. Something tells me you'll not be happy with what's going down in #50 :)

Closing as this feature is already implemented.

It's fine, I'm not bound to this particular workflow, after all, it's a niche situation for me.

And if the handling gets improved in some way based on community feedback, that's fine by me. 👍
