[Feat] Automatic English Variants
Problem Statement
Apple supports providing string definitions for a number of sub-English languages including (but not limited to):
- British (en-GB)
- American (en-US)
- Canadian (en-CA)
- Australian (en-AU)
I highlight these ones in particular because they are notable, large, audiences which applications may find value in providing custom translation variants for. Additionally, there are few differences between these languages which make it a great opportunity to automatically handle this.
Suggested Solution
It would be helpful if ReMafoX provided the option to automatically adapt translations made in one English language into one or more other English languages from those highlighted above. The most important (and well documented) option being to translate American English into British English and vice-versa.
There are a number of open-source libraries and command line tools which achieve this functionality, so we wouldn't need to reinvent the wheel.
- https://github.com/hyperreality/American-British-English-Translator
- etc
In this example, the user would only provide one translation (such as British English) and the strings file for the other languages (such as American English) would be automatically generated and maintained by ReMafoX providing the alternate translations where necessary.

@Sherlouk Thank you for requesting this feature!
Please read this FAQ post I just created to learn which languages are currently supported.
I just checked and found out that machine-translations on the currently supported services do not cover these local variants, so thank you very much for linking those libraries that do the relevant changes automatically. I will make sure to check them out and provide an automatic mapping when I work on this feature.
Please don't forget to leave your upvote to help me prioritize this feature.
Thanks for noting the supported languages in the FAQ post! Indeed as per that ReMafoX already supports British English, American English and Australian English and so would already be in a great place to add this functionality.
I can see this being a low-priority feature, but is also relatively small and in my opinion quite a unique capability for such a tool. As a British user, I appreciate when apps apply subtle localisation changes to alter the American spelling.
